Waxworms should be stored in the well ventilated container they arrive in.
If there is any condensation build up on the inside of the container obtained during shipping; wipe this away as this can reduce the shelf life of the waxworms.
Although great care is taken when we pack our waxworms, it is inevitable that mortality can occur during the packing and shipping process. If this is the case please remove any black waxworms from the container to reduce the rest of the live waxworms being affected.
Waxworms are best stored (in low humidity) at temperatures between 55°F and 65°F. Please do not freeze them. When waxworms are cold they can appear life-less. Warm them up gradually and they will regain their normal texture and vitality. If the waxworms are kept in conditions that are too warm, they will pupate and turn into moths. In addition, please avoid direct contact with sunlight.
Please Note: At the time of dispatch waxworms have reached the stage where they no longer need to be fed. But the longer they are kept, the smaller they will become. This is because the waxworms are surviving on their stored body fat.
